How I ignited my hypothyroidism and the steps I took to get my health back fast
Over the last 2 months, I’ve put my vitality to the test. In March, I was working, parenting, coaching and volunteering to the point of burnout. That was all before planting season hit for a new California Coffee project I’ve been working on for two years.
Heading into planting season, I was already at a compromised energy level. I kept my energy in balance through weekly acupuncture and monthly cranial sacral therapy, but exercise, eating optimally, taking my supplements and any down time just went out the window. Ironically, during the peak week of planting, I had a few text messages asking me how I did it all?! My response….I don’t, and I’m strug-gl-ing.
Two weeks ago, I noticed that my hands and feet could not get warm. I also found myself crashing hard at 2 PM each day, barely able to think, function, or keep my eyes open. That wasn’t just fatigue, it was pure exhaustion and signs of hypothyroidism.
Luckily, by the time this crash hit, I was done with the 12 hour work days and able to work towards a more sustainable schedule. Here’s how I brought myself back to balance.
Early bedtimes. As soon as I tucked Hazel into bed and Julian took over night time duties, I put myself to bed as early as 8:30 for a week
Restorative Yoga - I FORCED myself to get to a restorative yoga class
Meditation - I resumed my daily meditation practice, and focused on sourcing energy from the earth through my feet and energy from above through the crown
I said no to any extra commitments (this meant letting some of my junior olympic athletes down)
I took baths with magnesium salts and essential oils
I reduced caffeine intake (I had heavily relied on drinking coffee to the get the 3715 coffee plants in the ground)
I didn’t drink alcohol
I enjoyed Reishi tea for adrenal support and Lions Mane elixirs for brain function
Within 1 week, my energy levels were returning, my hands/feet were no longer perpetually cold, and I could feel myself finding normal. I’m not back to 100%, but I know I’ll get there over the next few months by following the same methods I use in the More Energy Mama Method. They really work!
